      By Molly

On Sunday, April 26 City on a Hill hosted over 300 people for an Open House extraordinaire! We were all happily shocked by the amazing turnout. We met and visited with tons of new people and were thrilled to show them not only the studio, but to show them exactly how we create videos and run this place.

Our goal is to now to host small groups a couple times a month and have more tours where we can begin to pour into people lives on a personal level.

If you would like more information on how your small group can have a personalized tour of our studios please call Cibby at 245.2425.

    • The Easter Experience Premieres Wednesday Feb. 18th on TBN!!!

      Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

      By Molly

The much anticipated release of The Easter Experience is finally here. It has brought with it several new and exciting ventures for the series. One of these ventures is the debut of the series on the Trinity Broadcasting Network set for February 18th, 2009 at 9:00 pm Pacific Standard Time. H2O has already had a very successful run on TBN since May of 2008 and we hope The Easter Experience will have as great of impact as its predecessor. The series has already proved itself to be a powerful experience, not only as a dramatic depiction of the last days of Jesus, but also as challenging lessons in every-day questions such as “Does my life have a purpose?” and “Can my life change?”
TBN will also be showing a “Making of the Easter Experience” episode on April 15th which should be especially entertaining for everyone who helped us on this project. We hope that both the quality of the film as well as the moving content of the series truly make an impression on those watching it air on TBN – so tune in!

    • Easter Experience to Premiere on February 8th!

      Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

      By Molly

We are thrilled to announce the premiere of The Easter Experience on February 8th, 2008 at The Grand Convention Center in New Albany, Indiana from 2:00-6:00pm. Everyone is welcome to come and go as they please and enjoy free food. The Easter Experience is a unique, video-driven small group study that brings the passion and resurrection of Jesus to life through dramatic storytelling and challenging teaching. This special DVD study project and the corresponding participant’s guide were created to help families and their communities experience the resurrection message that is celebrated each Easter holiday, in a fresh new way.

The Easter Experience consists of six 20-minute episodes, with leader’s guides, participant’s guides, and leader training resources. Each episode touches on topics such as how people are searching for a purpose, how everyone can have a fresh start in Christ, how Jesus identifies with people in their times of suffering, how God has a plan for every person’s life, how the redemption story applies to everyone, and how hope is alive now that Jesus is resurrected.

“It is our prayer that The Easter Experience will do for families, small groups and churches everywhere, what ‘The Passion of the Christ’ did for moviegoers,” says Shane Sooter, the artistic director and president of City on a Hill Productions. Sooter, who comes from an acting background and portrays Jesus Christ in the video experience, goes on to say that “with passionate acting, high quality video presentations, and impactful teachings and messages The Easter Experience can’t help but inspire you. And it’s not only for Easter as the resurrection message of Christ’s love for us is one we should celebrate year-round.”

Outside of offering a visually engaging experience of the resurrection story, key components to the episodes are powerful lessons lead by Kyle Idleman, the teaching minister at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY.

“The teaching segments basically guide users through each episode’s overall message. These sessions help them to delve deeper into the personal application of: what if what happened then changes everything now?”, notes Idleman. “Plus although geared towards small groups and families, the material is so engaging and easy to follow that it can work for personal study too.”

Can’t wait to see you there!!!

    • Merry Christmas from City on a Hill Productions!

      Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

      By Molly

As we take time out of our year to celebrate the Christmas season, we want to remember the blessings God has been so gracious to give City on a Hill Productions over the past year.  We have begun a new publishing relationship with Thomas Nelson,  seen the amazing impact of H2O on thousands of households through its run on the Trinity Broadcasting Network, and  have been hard at work finishing up the Easter Experience post-production. So many of these blessings were made possible by the continual prayer and support that we receive from each one of you.  Your desire to see the gospel message go forth through media ministry and see lives changed through that message is evident in the encouragement we so often receive from having you as a part of this ministry.  We are greatly humbled with the way this ministry is developing because we know that apart from God, none of it would have been possible.

At this time of year we are often reminded anew of the great work that the Father did by sending his only son, Jesus, into the world to save a lost and sinful people.  Jesus is the ultimate example of humility and showed that God desires bring himself low to reach people as they are. Paul reminds us in Philippians 2 to

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,  who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.  Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

In light of this amazing truth, we want to emulate Christ in this way through our ministry – to reach a culture with the gospel story, through a medium that they use and understand.

Praise God for giving us much more than we could ever deserve in the form of His Beloved son, Jesus Christ, and the salvation that comes through Him!  May we all be humbled and seek to be servants of Him and one another as we continue to share the good news of Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection. We pray that you will ponder these great truths and let the truth evoke a sense of awe and wonder at the God who came to live among us.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Staff at City on a Hill Productions!!

    • In Romania

      Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

      By Molly

On Sunday, October 19th a team from City on a Hill comprised of Shane, Kevin, Cassie, Richie, and Meghan (Kevin’s daughter) set out for Romania. They are scouting locations for what will  be our very first feature film!

Why Romania, you ask? We anticipate gaining the amazing privilege of telling the story of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, founders of the ministry – Voice of the Martyrs. Theirs is an unusual love story. As their love for God and each other grew and was strengthened in the midst of being persecuted and imprisoned by the Communist government that was taking root in Romania. Richard was locked away twice for a total of fourteen years, three of which were spent in solitary confinement.

Sabina was interned at a forced labor camp for three years and had to send their young son away to be taken care of by friends. While the City on a Hill crew is in Romania, they will be touring several of the locations where Richard and Sabina were imprisoned. Please pray for them as they travel through what were once the tortured footsteps of all those held captive by the Communist regime. Pray with us for their discernment as they analyze which locations will best tell the story of the Wurmbrands, as well as for their safe return to the U.S. on November 1st.

To gain a more in-depth knowledge of the Wurmbrands’ story the books “The Pastor’s Wife” (Sabina’s story) and “In God’s Underground” (Richard’s story) are excellent resources!

For many more photos and updates from the team while they are in Romania you can check out Richie’s blog.

    • A dream 5 years in the making

      Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

      By Molly

      Tomorrow is the big day.
This date has been set for over a year and still it seems impossible that tomorrow at 6:30pm we will have yet another Fall Event.  Each year is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all that God has done at CHP, however, I’m not gonna lie, it’s a ton of work.  Most of the work is fun and all of it fulfilling, but still yet, work…hard work.

Wrangling together silent and live auction items, as well as producing a fun, seamless evening with a great presentation is tough.  But each year, God makes the event better than the year before…and I believe that He will do this yet again.

This my 4th year doing the event and I’m especially excited and grateful for this party.  It has honestly been a group effort.  We have talked and toiled over the presentation, program and decor.  We are all excited, all hopeful, and mostly we are grateful.

I know that for some, 5 years hardly seems like a long time…but to us, it has been a miracle to see God move and shake in this ministry every single day.  To see us expand in numbers and grow in heart is truly miraculous.
God is good and for some reason His favor continues to bless us and keep us close to His heart and his beautifully creative spirit.  We are so humbled to celebrate this miracle tomorrow.
