“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” ~ John 3:8 (NIV)

And so it is with me! Being moved (literally – across states) by the Spirit was new to me, yet a year ago that is exactly what I did. I set off on this journey to follow a call to work at City on a Hill, and it has been quite the adventure. It was during this time, when I thought I had made this huge “leap of faith” that I began to sense God opening me up to even more faith-filled ideas, potentials, and possibilities that I would have never considered before. He has shown me the value of taking risks, as well as creating within me a discontent for staying with the safe choices.

While this past year continually pulled me out of my comfort zone as far as relocating, depending on Him and His plan for my provision, and stepping out to make new friends, I have stayed safe in my career choice of being an administrative assistant. No doubt, He has gifted me administratively, but this year He has also built in me a desire to be more hands on as I work. Therefore, at the end of this year I will be leaving City on a Hill, heading back to Texas (destination Dallas), and earning an alternative teaching certificate. Can’t get much more hands on than teaching! It all feels very crazy to me, as I am not one to change jobs (much less careers!) in just a year’s time. And yet it feels like it’s the next step in God’s adventure for me. City on a Hill still holds a very special place in my heart and life, and I will continue to be an avid supporter and cheerleader for them as they continue to grow. Even so, I continue to covet your prayers. I’m sure becoming a teacher will stretch me in ways that I can only imagine now!

(Okay, you might not really be wondering that second question, but you should)

My journey to City on a Hill Productions actually began a little over 2 years ago… I am a proud, born and raised Texas girl – howdy ya’ll! But as God, my Lover, began wooing me, in order to cause me to rely on Him more, He moved me out of my beloved Texas.

My initial connection to City was via Kevin Bryan. We worked together for several years at another ministry in the Houston area before he and his family made the move up to Kentucky to work at City on a Hill. About a year ago, I got a very desperate email from Kevin begging me to employ my administrative gifts at City, as well as to reconsider my worldview of raising my own support… While moving to Kentucky and working at City on a Hill sounded exciting (I’m an amateur film buff), the prospect of raising financial support wasn’t something I was looking forward to. My initial response was, “No thank you!”

Then over course of the next month my Lover continued to draw me out. He challenged me to trust in Him, and fanned the desire for adventure in me – soon my answer changed to a resolute “Yes!”

At the end of October I finally trekked up to Kentucky to begin my new job here at City. I got to experience the tail end of the beautiful fall weather in all its fiery hues, and I weathered my first real winter complete with snow and ice! (Something that only happens maybe every 20 years in Houston). As much as I love my home state, I am enjoying all the new experiences that Louisville offers – like “real” weather seasons and the Derby!

My experiences so far at City are unlike anything I would have imagined myself doing when I first accepted the position. The true purpose of me coming up here was to assist the slightly organizationally challenged Shane and Kevin. In the process of ministry (even film ministry) being what it is – one automatically gets sucked into doing things far from what would be listed on your typical job description… I have NEVER before painted anything other than what you might do in your elementary school art class, yet in the few months that I’ve been here I have helped paint a gigantic green-screen floor, drop-tile ceilings, and a desk. God seems to provide me a new adventure every day at City on a Hill!
